Representatives of Suwałki City Council have signed a contract with Solaris Bus & Coach for the delivery of 10 electric buses along with charging infrastructure. The city has opted for two models of battery-driven buses: Urbino 9 LE electric and Urbino 12 electric. Deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2025.
Solaris and representatives of Suwałki City Council have signed an agreement for the delivery of new electric city buses. The tender included 5 MIDI class buses – the Urbino 9 LE electric model, and 5 MAXI class buses – the manufacturer's most popular model, the Urbino 12 electric. Additionally, Solaris will supply the city with 10 dual charging stations. The total value of the order, to be completed in the second half of 2025. The buses will join the fleet of the Suwałki Municipal Utilities.
Each of the ordered vehicles will be equipped with an electric motor, powered by batteries with a capacity of over 300 kWh. Such capacity and high efficiency energy storage will allow the buses to operate smoothly throughout the day. The batteries will be charged via a plug-in connector after the vehicles return to the depot.
The Urbino 9 LE electric and Urbino 12 electric buses will be adapted to transport disabled persons and equipped with features such as video monitoring system, dynamic passenger information system, and passenger counting system. The use of air conditioning with a heat pump will help the region to cope with the harsh atmospheric conditions: "Additionally, the buses will be equipped with CNG-powered heating, which is used in Suwałki, to extend the battery life during winter," said Krzysztof Musiał, Sales Director at Solaris Bus & Coach, at the contract signing.
In the field of bus propulsion, battery and hydrogen technologies are currently developing most rapidly. Solaris electric buses have already found hundreds of buyers across Europe. Already 1,500 units of the Urbino 12 electric model chosen by Suwałki have been delivered to the customers. The Urbino 9 LE electric, which has been in the manufacturer's portfolio for much shorter time than the 12-meter version, is also gaining market interest, particularly in Poland and Germany.
