The public transport operator in Grudziądz has placed an order for 12 Solaris hybrid buses; six units were part of a basic agreement and the other six have been ordered according to an option. The Solaris hybrid buses are slated to be delivered to this city on the Vistula river by the end of this year.
On 10 May, the carrier MZK Grudziądz and Solaris Bus & Coach signed an agreement for the delivery of 12 Solaris Urbino 12 hybrid buses. The basic order included six vehicles, but the operator has exercised its option and extended it by the addition of another six vehicles. Pursuant to the agreement, these environmentally friendly, low-floor hybrid buses will be delivered to Grudziądz and will be put into operation at the end of 2023.
“We are extremely proud of the trust that the city of Grudziądz has placed in us for more than two decades. There are nearly 50 of our buses plying the streets of the city and another 17 zero-emission e-vehicles are currently in the process of being delivered. We are very pleased with the order placed today. Thanks to it, public transport passengers in Grudziądz will be able to board these state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly buses of ours as early as this year”, said Jakub Zakrzewski, Regional Sales Manager for Northern Poland at Solaris Bus & Coach.
The Urbino 12 hybrid buses will be equipped with a next-generation hybrid drive consisting of a 250 kW electric traction motor and a diesel engine of over 150 kW, which meets the Euro 6 emissions standards. Additionally, the hybrid system will be supported by supercapacitors that store and use recovered energy. An efficient hybrid drive helps to significantly reduce fuel consumption and thus a carrier’s costs, as well as to reduce pollutants emitted into the atmosphere. Moreover, the commissioned vehicles will boast a zero-emission function, i. e. a Stop-and-Go feature. This feature turns off the diesel engine completely when the bus comes to a rest at bus stops and the doors open. The vehicle uses, at that moment, energy which was recovered during braking and stored in the supercaps.
The air-conditioned, spacious Urbino 12 hybrid will also feature USB ports and a video surveillance system. Each vehicle will fit 25 seats, and in total 80 passengers will be able to board the bus.
It is worth noting that this is not the first investment by Grudziądz in environmentally and people-friendly buses. 17 Solaris Urbino electric buses, ordered by operator MZK in April 2022, will soon roll out on the streets of the city. Solaris is a European leader in the production and sales of low- and zero-emission buses and the largest supplier of zero-emission public transport buses in Poland.
