Solaris with the Electromobility Leader Award
Back to press releases

During the Global e-Mobility Forum international conference held in Warsaw, Solaris Bus & Coach has received the Electromobility Leader award for contribution to the development of zero emission transport in Poland. The event has become a place of debate over the future of electromobility. Solaris presented at the conference the Urbino 12 electric bus in the colours of a Warsaw-based transport operator. The vehicle has been carrying passengers of the capital of Poland since 2018.

On November 21st, during the gala opening the Global e-Mobility Forum conference, awards for the contribution to the development of zero-emission transport were presented. As one of the most important electric bus manufacturers in Europe, Solaris has been awarded with the Leader of Electromobility award as a recognition for its considerable input to the transformation of public transport in Poland.

‘The Electromobility Leader award is an extremely precious distinction for Solaris, because it appreciates us in the area that is most important for the company – for our achievements in the field of electromobility’, said Javier Calleja, CEO of Solaris, collecting the prize. ‘A real change in bus public transport is happening right before our eyes. And the fact that we have a significant share in accelerating this process is the greatest reward for us. For my part, I can promise that we will certainly not rest on our laurels and will continue to develop our portfolio of zero-emission buses. Our goal today is one – and that is reduction of emissions in urban transport. We hope that this will soon be the goal of all of Europe’, added Javier Calleja.

Solaris has been the leader of the Polish bus market for 16 years, and for many Polish cities is the main partner in the process of gradual replacement of vehicles with zero-emission ones. Poland is one of those European countries that are intensively developing a fleet of electric city buses. The contribution of Solaris in the transformation of Polish public transport into electric is considerable – over 75% of battery vehicles that carry passengers in Polish cities are Solaris buses.

The Global e-Mobility Forum conference is a high-ranking event that brought together representatives of states and governments and international organizations, but also the most important companies related to electromobility. The National Stadium in Warsaw has become a place of debate over the future of electric transport and best practices that favour the development of this area.

The conference organizers also opened an exhibition zone where innovative solutions in the field of electromobility were exhibited. The Solaris company presented the Solaris Urbino 12 electric electric bus, which is its flagship product, hailed as European "Bus of the Year 2017". The vehicle is equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries with a capacity of over 200 kWh, which are charged via a pantograph, as well as a plug-in connector. The exhibited bus is used on a day-to-day basis in MZA, a public transport operator in Warsaw. It is worth mentioning that MZA made one of the largest electric bus purchases in Europe in 2019. And the tender was won by Solaris. As many as 130 articulated Urbino electric will be delivered to Warsaw in 2020.
