The representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. signed a contract for the delivery of 25 low-floor city buses with Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Miejskiej (PKM), a local transport operator in Katowice, represented by its CEO Helena Ulanowska and Paweł Organek, the Board Member. The Polish manufacturer has 330 days to process the order, which means that the first buses will reach Silesia in December 2019. The total value of the signed agreement is PLN 22.85 million net.
The buses ordered by PKM Katowice are twelve-meter Solaris Urbino 12 powered by ecological, 220 kW engine meeting the stringent EURO 6 emission standards. They will be additionally equipped with the so-called cold start system that facilitates ignition at temperatures down to -32 degrees Celsius.
The onboard of modern Solaris Urbino 12 buses for PKM Katowice will include air conditioning, video monitoring system with external and internal cameras and a recorder, as well as an extensive passenger information system adapted to the needs of the visually impaired, e.g. by means of Braille buttons. Buses will also be equipped with energy-saving LED technology lighting including the additional, external lighting over the second and third doors characteristic of the Silesian operator. There will also be free WiFi Internet and USB ports, thanks to which passengers will charge their mobile devices.
At the customer's request, the producer from Bolechowo will install a closed-type driver's cabin in the vehicles delivered. It is a solution aimed at ensuring the optimal level of comfort and safety of drivers driving the vehicle. Another applied solution, significantly increasing the safety level of all passengers on board is the fire extinguishing system. It is equipped with an additional sensor in the engine compartment with warning signals on the driver's desk and audible signaling in the passenger compartment.
Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has been cooperating with the PKM in Katowice since 2002. Since then, the producer from Bolechowo, has delivered nearly 140 vehicles to Katowice. In addition to buses using a traditional power source, among the operating Solaris vehicles in Katowice we can also find two innovative mobile ambulances for blood donation used by the Regional Center of Blood Donation and Blood Treatment in Katowice. These vehicles are powered exclusively by electricity. Recently, the delivery of PKM of five zero-emission Solaris Urbino 18 electric Solaris was also started as part of a contract resolved in December 2017.
