Ostrołęka Municipal Public Transport Company and Solaris Bus & Coach have signed a contract for the delivery of two Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE electric buses. As the result of winning a competitive tender, Solaris will produce two electric buses for Ostrołęka Municipal Public Transport Company. They will run on local services in the Polish town, located north of Warsaw. The buses in the low-entry version are 8.9 metres long and are equipped with 160 kW electric engines and 160 kWh batteries. The charging system mounted on the roof is easy to access. Power can be topped up through the standard three-phase power plug. All electric devices will be provided by Solaris’s long-standing partner Medcom.

"We are all very happy that Ostrołęka Municipal Public Transport Company focuses on innovation and new technology – including the purchase of battery buses. Meanwhile we hope this decision is the start of a trend in our country in investing into low emission public transport", said Solaris Bus & Coach Deputy CEO, Dr Dariusz Michalak.

Ostrołęka joins the growing number of cities that have chosen Solaris electric buses. Battery buses with a green dachshund at the front have already been delivered or will soon be delivered to Klagenfurt (Austria), Berlin, Braunschweig, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Hamburg (all in Germany) as well as Västerås, Sweden. Since April this year it is also possible to see a Solaris Urbino electric running in Cracow, where it is being testing by the city’s Municipal Public Transport Company.
