Solaris Urbino 12 LE lite hybrid with a 2019 Top Design Award
Back to press releases

Having its world premiere at last year's Transexpo fairs in Kielce, Solaris Urbino 12 LE lite hybrid was awarded the Top Design award at the Arena Design fair show in Poznań.

Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has been awarded in the "Automotive and public transport" category for its new product - the Solaris Urbino 12 LE lite hybrid debuting at last year's Kielce Transexpo. Jens Timmich, who has been responsible for the design of products from Bolechowo for many years and Michał Pikuła - Director of Buses Development Department, who is responsible for the technical design and development of the new construction, have both been recognized for the new product.

This year, the 11th edition of the fair takes place on March 12-15 at the Poznań International Fair. During the event, Top Design prizes, which award innovative design at the highest level, confirming the outstanding quality of product design, were granted. The jury of the competition included recognized authorities in the field of design, numerous stylists and academic staff. The prizes were awarded in as many as 16 categories, including industry, office, garden, consumer electronics or public space.

The "low calorie" name of the awarded vehicle refers to its greatest advantage, which will be low fuel consumption, and thus lower operating costs compared to similar designs available on the market. The main goal guiding the engineers of the Solaris Research and Development Office, who worked on the creation of Urbino lite hybrid, was to develop a bus design which will achieve fuel consumption of less than 30 liters per 100 km in the SORT 2 test. One of the most important conditions for achieving the assumed goal was to reduce the weight of the vehicle. The curb weight of the Solaris Urbino 12 LE lite hybrid is under 9 tonnes

This is the third prize awarded to the Polish producer by the jury of this exhibition. Solaris received the previous distinction in 2012 for the Solaris Tramino tram, and later in 2015 for the design of the latest edition of the Urbino city bus range.
