Solaris’ debut in Opole
Back to press releases

Solaris Bus & Coach has just secured an order for 10 Solaris Urbino 12 buses for the municipal transport operator Miejski Zaklad Komunikacyjny (MZK) in Opole. In line with the contract signed today and worth over PLN 12 million, the new vehicles will be delivered to the carrier in 300 days from the date of signature.

The 12-metre low-floor vehicles ordered by MZK will have room on board for at least 85 passengers at a time, including 26 seated ones. Three sets of double doors will facilitate the swift exchange of passengers. In order to ease the entry of wheelchair-bound passengers or those travelling with prams or pushchairs, the bus will feature a folding access ramp, and what is more, the driver will be able to use the kneeling function which allows to lower the right side of the bus by a total of 7 centimeters. For maximum passenger comfort during rides, the manufacturer will equip the buses among others with an efficient air conditioning and USB ports thanks to which travelers will be able to recharge their mobile devices. Furthermore, the commissioned Urbino 12 will encompass a passenger information system and a digital video surveillance system. The latter will consist of cameras monitoring the passenger compartment, the area outside of the second and third door, a front-view camera and a rear-view camera. All buses will be prepared for the later installation of ticket vending machines.

The Bolechowo-based producer pays very much attention to the safety of the produced buses. The same applies also to the order placed by the city of Opole. The supplied Solaris buses will also feature a fire-fighting system with visual and acoustic warnings in the driver’s cabin. As for the workplace of the drivers, the carrier decided to go for a closed cabin type.

The driveline of the state-of-the-art buses from Bolechowo consists of a dynamic, 300 bhp motor meeting the rigorous EURO VI emission standard and which will be coupled with an automatic transmission. The drive unit will support the so-called cold start feature which facilitates ignition at temperatures up to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

The vehicles commissioned today will be the first to be manufactured in the Bolechowo-based factory for Miejski Zakład Komunikacyjny in Opole. Operating since 1996, Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has been the sole leader of the Polish city bus market for 16 years, having delivered over 6000 vehicles for that market.
