At the beginning of January Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. signed a contract with Ostrava-based Dopravní Podnik for 40 new Solaris Urbino 12 CNG buses. It is the second-biggest order ever of compressed natural gas vehicles of the Polish manufacturer in the Czech Republic.
24 new Solaris Urbino 12 CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) buses, commissioned by local operator Dopravní Podnik Ostrava a.s., will make it to the Czech city of Ostrava by the end of this year. The remaining 16 ordered vehicles shall be delivered in the first quarter of 2019. The value of the contract is about PLN 45 million (ca. 12 million euro).
80 passengers will fit on board of the air-conditioned buses equipped with wireless Internet and easily accessible USB ports. The external and internal lighting will be made of environmental-friendly and economical LED lamps. The vehicle will be fuelled with low-emission compressed natural gas (CNG) stored in composite CNG tanks with a total capacity of 1575 litres.
“I am extremely glad about the possibility to carry out yet another order for Ostrava. It is not only our first customer in the Czech Republic but also the first (in 2000) foreign buyer in Solaris’ history altogether. In 18 years of collaboration we have supplied 250 buses and trolleybuses to Ostrava,” notes Zbigniew Palenica, Vice-CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A.
It is the second-biggest contract of the Polish manufacturer for compressed natural gas fuelled buses in the Czech Republic. The biggest one - for a total of 105 vehicles - was completed by Solaris in 2015, and was also concluded with Ostrava. After completion of the deliveries scheduled for this year the total number of Solaris vehicles on the Czech market will exceed 1000 buses and trolleybuses.
