The winning designs were selected by professionals from over twenty countries. The experts spent two days deliberating over almost five thousand projects from all over the world. The iF DESIGN AWARD 2015 was celebrated on 27th February at BMW World in Munich. Since 1953, the independent iF AWARD has been given to the most outstanding designs.

The new Solaris Urbino rewarded with the award had its world premiere during the 2014 IAA Exhibition in Hannover. It is a completely new design of a city bus, which provides robust rigidity while being significantly lighter in weight. The innovative construction of the vehicle is expected to lower fuel consumption and operating costs and guarantees highly distinguished aesthetics. High standards of comfort for passengers were achieved through a spacious and bright interior supported by its assured handling. The whole was completed with the eye-catching, expressive, but also functional design which creates attractive travelling environment for passengers.

The intention of the designers was to create a city bus that by its mere appearance and appealing interior would increase passenger growth and make public transport more popular. Hence the visible growth of available space in the passenger saloon, wider and higher doors as well as a significant number of pedestal-free seats. Bigger windows and LED lighting ensure the comfort of the journey.

The more expressive design of the new Solaris suggests that the manufacturer is ready to respond to the challenges future public transport is faced with. The overall result of the intensive work of all the team will improve the satisfaction as well as the comfort of passengers, drivers and operators. We are glad that jury of the iF and Top Design awards appreciated the unity of exterior and interior design which was the strategic concept of the idea. These two awards will undoubtedly boost Solaris's profile, especially now that the new buses enter production’, says Jens Timmich of Berlin-based studioFT, co-designer of the new Urbino.

The new Solaris Urbino also generated highly positive feedback in Poland. The new Solaris Urbino was honored with the TOP Design Award. The celebration took place during ‘arena DESIGN’ exhibition between 17th and 20th February in Poznań. Dozens of international experts in the field of industry design gathered at the event. The jury appreciated examples of unparalleled design quality in business fields. The new Solaris Urbino was awarded in the automotive industry and public transport category.
