Five Solaris electric buses started their official courses in Frankfurt am Main. The vehicles carry passengers in the city center on a specially created zero-emission line connecting two university campuses. Solaris is the leader of the German market in terms of electric buses sold.
The authorities of Frankfurt am Main have officially introduced the Hessen’s first fully electric line, number 75. It was this particular line that the 5 battery buses from Solaris became operating. For additional promotion of zero-emission transport in the city, the buses have been decorated with colorful veneer and provided with funny word games referring to electromobility. The contract for the delivery of five Urbino 12 electric vehicles was signed with In der City Bus Frankfurt am Main at the end of 2017. Frankfurt decided to order the Solaris bus which was awarded the Bus of the Year 2017 title in the prestigious 'Bus of the Year' competition.
The energy in ecological vehicles is stored in batteries with a total capacity of up to 240 kWh, which are charged by a stationary plug-in charger. Solaris also delivered 3 chargers to the operator. The extremely quiet Urbino which have started their service on the streets of Frankfurt, are equipped with an innovative electric axle with two integrated motors that guarantees effective acceleration and smooth operation of the vehicle. Modern Solaris buses will provide comfort and safety to the citizens by the means of efficient air conditioning and USB chargers, as well as LED lighting or an extensive passenger information system.
Nearly 70 Urbino electric buses have already been contracted by Solaris with operators in Germany. It places the manufacturer first in terms of electric vehicles sold in the country and accounts for almost 20% of the entire electric bus market in Germany.
