First Solaris Tramino Olsztyn presented

On 19th of June, the first Solaris Tramino Olsztyn was officially presented. The event represents one of the final steps on the way to restoring trams to the capital of the Warmian-Masurian region in north-east Poland after an absence of fifty years. The delivery of all fifteen Tramino will be completed by the end of 2015.

The delivery of all fifteen Tramino will be completed by the end of 2015.

The contract signed in 2012 between Solaris Bus & Coach and Olsztyn Province stipulates that Solaris will manufacture fifteen Tramino for the operator. All innovative trams are bi-directional and fully low floor, 29.3 metres long and 2.5 metres wide.

The industry premiere of the Solaris Tramino Olsztyn is planned for September, when it will be shown to a trade audience during this year’s TRAKO International Railway Fair in Gdańsk.

Solaris Tramino Olsztyn – technical details

The Solaris Tramino for Olsztyn consist of three body sections. Each of them runs on a pivoting bogie of its own. The outer bogies are powered, while the central one is trailing. Four asynchronous 120 kW traction motors will deliver the necessary power. Fitted with forty-three seats, they will be able to accommodate more than 200 passengers in total. They will have six sets of double doors on each side, providing easy and comfortable access to the completely low floor throughout the tram. An air-conditioning system guarantees comfort and pleasant temperatures even on hottest days, while a CCTV monitoring system improves on-board security.

So far, Solaris has completed deliveries of trams to Poznań, Poland (forty-five units) and to Jena, Germany (five vehicles). By the end of the year, handover of eighteen trams to Braunschweig, Germany and fifteen Tramino to Olsztyn, Poland will be completed. Also, Solaris has signed a contract with the city transport operator in Leipzig, Germany. The agreement stipulates that the producer will manufacture up to 41 trams in the years from 2016 until 2020 where five units are firmly ordered.
