Solaris Bus & Coach has signed another contract for a delivery of electric buses. This time, the group of countries where electric vehicles from Bolechowo can be seen will be joined by Romania. The fleet of Cluj-Napoca can be made more numerous by up to 30 Solaris Urbino 12 electric. The passengers will be able to enjoy the first ride on the new buses in the spring of 2018.
The frame agreement signed between Solaris and Cluj-Napoca authorities includes the delivery of up to 30 emission-free vehicles in the period of next three years. In the meantime, a separate contract will be signed each time for delivery in a given year. The first order consisting of 10 buses will be completed within the next nine months. The project is partially founded by the Romanian-Swiss Cooperation Program. The CTP Transport Company, which already has 40 articulated Solaris buses in its fleet will the operator of the newly delivered vehicles.
The 12-meter Urbino electric will be powered by a electric drive delivered by a Polish producer – Medcom. The vehicles for the Romanian operator will be equipped with a 160 kW central motor and a 200 kWh traction batteries. The implementation of electric buses into the fleet involves investment in the charging infrastructure which will include 11 plug-in and 2 pantograph, fast charging stations.
The buses for Cluj-Napoca will be fully air-conditioned, with external and internal monitoring system. They will also enable the passengers to use the free WiFi Internet connection.
The order is the first in Romania concerning electric buses. However, the history of cooperation of the Polish bus manufacturer located near Poznań with the Black Sea region country is much longer. The first vehicle manufactured for Romania (a 12 meter Trollino) left Bolechowo over 15 years ago, and the total amount of buses delivered to the country by the producer exceeded 170.
