Electric buses from Solaris in Nurnberg and Fürth
Back to press releases

In April 2017, Solaris Bus & Coach has won two contracts to deliver electric buses to Germany. The first agreement was signed with VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft, a public transport operator from Nurnberg. A nearly identical vehicle will be delivered to Infra Fürth Verkehr GmbH, from a neighboring city of  Fürth.

The German public operator VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft from Nurnberg and a private carrier Infra Fürth Verkehr GmbH from Fürth go for electromobility. In the beginning of April the representatives of both operators signed contracts for the delivery of a new Solaris Urbino 12 electric. The buses will arrive in both cities by the end of this year. In both cases, they will be the first fully electric buses in the locations. The contracts aim to test the innovative technology used by the producer and to make the citizens familiar with the alternative driven vehicles used in public transportation in a common manner.

Both of the emission-free buses will be equipped with a ZF AVE 130 electric axles with an integrated electric motors and a Medcom drive system. The drive, as well as the air conditioning and heating will be powered by the energy stored in a 240 kWh batteries. Both buses will be charged via plug-in system which allows the overnight charging at the depot. Additionally, they will have a charger mounted on the roof, which will enable the buses to be charged also outside of the depot. The innovative vehicles will also be prepared for a future installment of the pantograph which will allow the fast charging to take place while the bus is on route.

The modern and ecological buses will be equipped in several features enhancing the safety and quality of the ride for the passengers. The efficient air-conditioning will improve the comfort of the driver and the passengers. What is more, the internal lightening is made of energy efficient LED lightening including red warning LEDs flashing when the doors are operating. On board of both buses, there will also be a sophisticated monitoring system installed, consisting of e.g., eight cameras, which will allow the driver to observe and control passenger exchange efficiently. Furthermore, the elements of the system mounted at the back of the buses will prove useful while maneuvering.

The electric vehicles for the neighboring German cities will differ between themselves in terms of the external painting project and internal equipment. There will be 20 seating places and additional three folded ones available in the Nurnberg bus. Its equivalent from Fürth will accommodate 28 seated passengers and have another 5 folded seats available.

Solaris has been present in Nurnberg since 2005. There are 28 green dachshund logo buses travelling on the roads of this Bavarian city. In the middle of April this year, Solaris Bus & Coach delivered eight articulated new Urbino 18 buses to VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft from Nurnberg. In Fürth, on the other hand, there are two Solaris Urbino 12 already.
