In the first half of April Solaris Bus & Coach delivered eight articulated new Urbino 18 buses to the VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft, a German public transport operator in Nurnberg.
All of the newly delivered buses from Solaris are powered by a dynamic and economical DAF/PACCAR MX-11 240 H1 (240 kW) engines, which comply with the strict Euro 6 emission standards. The propulsion unit is coupled to a Voith Diwa 6 gearbox, which is equipped with a ECO program that efficiently reduces fuel consumption. The axles, on the other hand, are provided by a ZF company. After the contract has been successfully completed, the VAG operator’s fleet has reached 178 vehicles.
The state of the art and ecological Solaris buses are equipped with several comfort and safety enhancing features that the passengers and the drivers will benefit from. One of them is the fully air conditioned driver and passengers’ compartment. Furthermore, the producer used energy efficient LED interior lightening which consists of, among others, red illuminating door markings flashing as a warning when the doors are operating. Also, there is a sophisticated Derovis monitoring system installed, which is made of nine cameras, a recorder and a monitor placed above the driver’s seat. Owing to these devices, the driver will be able to observe the exchange of the passengers more accurately while the cameras at the back of the vehicles will be very useful while reversing and maneuvering.
The articulated new Urbino 18 buses are 18 meter long. The capacity of the bus ordered by VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft is 37 seating places with additional eight folded seats. Depending on their usage, the passenger compartment can accommodate between 88-99 standing passengers.
Solaris has been present in Nurnberg since 2005. To this day, there are 20 buses produced in Bolechowo on the roads of this Bavarian city.
