Solaris has signed another contract for the delivery of its electric bus to the German market. The producer will supply Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG with the Solaris Urbino 12 electric. The Solaris Urbino 12 electric will be delivered to Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB), a municipal transport company of the city of Dresden, in the first half of 2015. It will be another Solaris bus with an innovative drive system in the operator’s fleet. Dresden was the first European city to have ordered the Solaris Urbino 18 Hybrid in 2006.

"We are very pleased that Dresden will soon see its first electric bus with a pantograph in a regular service", said Reiner Zieschank, CEO of Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe.

Experience gained from the use of Solaris hybrid buses will be a good starting point for this new project, coordinated by Dresden University of Technology. The electric bus performance, with particular emphasis on batteries, will be observed by the operator. On the basis of the results Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG will make further decision on the extension of electric bus fleet.

Solaris CEO Solange Olszewska is delighted with this new order: "By choosing the Solaris Urbino 12 electric, Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG shows its forward-thinking approach to public transport and openness to the most innovative and eco-friendly solutions. This order is particularly important for us, since Dresden was the first European city to have ordered our hybrid bus".

The Solaris Urbino 12 electric for Dresden will be fitted with a 160 kW engine and 200 kWh batteries, allowing a non-stop operation on the planned routs. Energy for such components as heating, air conditioning, steering system and doors will be supplied from the batteries. They can be topped up through fast charging system with pantograph mounted on the roof and overnight with the use of plug-in.

Solaris Urbino electric will run on line 79 which connects districts Mickten and Übigau. The batteries will be topped up via roof-mounted pantograph at terminus, which will take 3 - 4 minutes. The plug-in will be used for overnight charging in the depot.

The "Elektro-buslinie 79" is one of forty projects run by the Federal States of Bavaria and Saxony within the "ELEKTROMOBILIT&.It received €1.1 million funding from the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.

Solaris buses are well known to the inhabitants of Dresden where 51 Urbino have been delivered since 2003. Until now, Solaris has sold its electric buses in Germany to Braunschweig, Düsseldorf and Hamburg.
