Castellón de la Plana, the only Spanish city to have reintroduced a trolleybus system, has opted for new Solaris trolleybuses. The 3.5 million EUR contract signed with Via Reservada covers the order for six Trollino. The vehicles will be delivered by the end of this year.

The order from Via Reservada comprises the delivery of six standard-length Trollino trolleybuses with the eye-catching MetroStyle design. The traction system will be provided by Škoda Electric. Due to the fact that trolleybuses in Castellón de la Plana run on segregated alignments with particular sections for guided buses, the ordered vehicles will be fitted with an additional battery pack ensuring off-wire operation. It will also allow a trolleybus to get independently to a diagnostic station. Batteries will be charged while the vehicles are in operation using the overhead wire or through battery chargers at depots.

The vehicles will be also equipped with the Optiboard system, thanks to which platforms at bus stops can be approached precisely without the driver’s input.

"This important order proves that Solaris is always ahead of its customers’ needs and provides them with innovative and tailor-made vehicles which meet their demand. Our company consequently strengthens its position on the Spanish market, increasing its presence in this country", comments Martin Gruber, Solaris executive board member for Sales, After Sales, Marketing and Quality Assurance.
