Soon passengers in Inowrocław, a city in northern Poland, will have the chance to take advantage of completely emission-free Urbino 12 electric. Two battery buses are to be delivered to a customer in the city next year. Therefore the number of Solaris electric vehicles sold in Poland rises to 15 units.
The Solaris Urbino 12 electric for Inowrocław are fitted with 201 kWh batteries and 160 kW traction motors. Batteries will be charged with the use of a conventional plug-in connection, although the construction of the bus offers an alternative to mount another charging system – a pantograph installed on the roof.
In addition, care has been taken to ensure safety and comfort of both passenger and the driver. All the buses will have a fully low floor and a kneeling function which enables them to lower the entrance side by approximately 70 mm. Apart from that, the battery vehicles will be fitted with air-conditioning in the whole passenger compartment as well as CCTV monitoring system. Separate air-conditioning will be installed in the cab, as drivers spend the most time in the bus. Both tire pressure and their temperature will be controlled by special sensors fitted in the bus. The Urbino electric offers wireless internet access on board and there will be USB chargers available in handrails, enabling to top up phones and other electronic devices.
The introduction of the first fully electric, battery-powered Solaris city bus took place in autumn 2011 at Transexpo Exhibition in Kielce, Poland. It was a 8.9-metre low entry midibus. One year later the company presented the first low-floor version of Urbino 12 electric. In recent months the range of Solaris battery buses broadened with articulated electric 18-metre buses. These exquisitely clean and quiet vehicles have already found many buyers on European markets, in Austria (Klagenfurt), Czech Republic (Plzeň), Spain (Barcelona), Germany (Berlin, Braunschweig, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover and Oberhausen), Sweden (Vasteras) and Poland (Inowrocław, Jaworzno, Ostrołęka, Warszawa). Altogether, 41 electric buses with various lengths, charging systems and battery capacities have been sold.
