Representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. have signed this week a contract with the authorities of the Piła municipality for the supply of 13 low-emission buses. Piła has chosen to buy 7 Solaris Urbino 12 hybrid and 6 diesel-engine Solaris Urbino 12 buses. Deliveries are to be completed by the end of October 2020.
The hybrid driveline of the Solaris Urbino 12 hybrid encompasses a 151 kW Euro 6 engine and an electric traction motor. The combination of a small diesel-engine with an electric one allows for a considerable reduction of fuel consumption (by up to 30% compared to diesel engine vehicles), but also the minimisation of pollutant emissions into the air. The buses will be equipped with a Stop & Go system that controls the diesel engine operation: it turns off the engine during stopovers at bus stops and it turns on again after the vehicle is moving. The hybrid buses to be manufactured for the customer from Piła will be a total of 85 passengers, and have 27 seats.
The remaining 6 of the 13 ordered vehicles will be Solaris Urbino 12 buses with diesel engines meeting the Euro 6 standard and boasting a power of 204 kW. These buses will fit at least 90 people, with seats being available to 25 of them. Worth mentioning among the amenities to be offered both in the hybrid and the diesel buses for Piła are in particular the air conditioning, the USB ports and LED-highlighted handrails. Catering to the passengers’ comfort, all buses will feature ticket vending machines and will comply with the Piła city transport card system.
The cooperation between Solaris and Piła dates back to 1997. Since then the urban operator Miejski Zakład Komunikacji in Piła and the municipality of Piła have bought 58 buses in total, including 13 hybrid vehicles – if one adds the contract signed today.
